There is a synergy between the profound yet entertaining writing and the enchanting and artful pictures. Each takes the other to a whole new height of inviting, captivating and just plain irresistible. Kinda like a puppy.... This book is not just a fluffy pup fest. It is a substantial book. Just like the first dog that captured your heart, there are gems in this books you will never forget. The variety of dogs pictured is matched by the types and lengths of poems and stories. Some will make you think. Another will make you remember a great loss with nostalgia and a smile...at times you'll catch your breath. You might shed a tear. But mostly, you WILL laugh. And, hopefully, you will decide to adopt. Or if you have already adopted, you might convince someone else to adopt with your own story...which the authors encourage you to share. The dog is the most varied species on earth. This book goes a long way to capturing the essence of those extremes, from LBD...not what you're thinking, (Large Black Dog) to Tea Cup Chihuahua. There is a commonality and something so familiar about these dogs. The words that describe the dogs appear to be based on true stories and...ah..."interpreted"... photographs. Seems an odd thing to say about dogs but it feels like human qualities we are recognizing...compassion, connection, a certain loving gratitude. The book defines/illustrates at one point as "lovitude"...... Perhaps these qualities are not human but divine. This book is. Hope these dog lovin' sister give us some more.
